Make the most of the opportunities for walking in Hampshire's Countryside this spring.
With stunning views of the South Downs and hangers or hanging woods, this is a 4 mile circular walk. The area round Steep near Petersfield was an inspiration for the poet. On the route is the memorial stone on Shoulder of Mutton hill, dedicated to Thomas in 1937, the Red House, his home from 1909 to 1913 and Steep Church containing two engraved windows commemorating the centenary of his birth.
In spring the woods are full of bluebells, orchids and other wild flowers. There are some steep climbs up the wooded hillsides.
This is a lovely, easy, 2.6 mile circular walk for the whole family. It starts in Hook, a large village about 6 miles from Basingstoke in the north east of Hampshire. You'll often see deer in the surrounding lush green fields. It takes you to the village of Rotherwick, with its duck pond, 13th century church and two country pubs.
Daily train services operate to Hook station.
This is an easy walk of 4 miles offering a further 1.5 miles skirting Harewood Forest. The route takes you in and around the pretty village of Wherwell and crosses the River Test and its water meadows. It offers good views of the radio telescope in the middle of what was a 2nd World War airfield. The walk is mostly on footpaths and tracks and includes a stretch on the road initially.
