Whitehill and Bordon

Set in the Woolmer Forest, an area of heathland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and ecologically outstanding as a wildlife sanctuary, these attractive villages combine historical interest with a contemporary way of life. The area has been a centre of military importance since 1863 when the War Office purchased 1,600 acres of training land.

The best way to explore the area is on foot. The Deadwater Valley Walk is in a 50 acre area of heath and woodland rich in wildlife, and is easily accessible. Edwardian and Literary Town Trails are packed with information about the history of the town and its literary connections.

The Woolmer Forest Heritage Society, who put together the trail based on Our Edwardian Town, are passionate about the ancient and recent history of the Whitehill and Bordon area. A selection of artefacts found locally is on display in the Bordon Library.

Places to visit in the area include Go Ape! in the Alice Holt Woodland Park, Birdworld, the Mill Chase Leisure Centre and the Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre. The Blackmoor Estate is famous for its fruit and this can be sampled at the Blackmoor Apple Tasting each October.
